Israeli sensors ensuring water safety in China’s capital
BEIJING WATER is installing 100 high-precision water quality analyzers for the city’s water distribution network developed by the Israeli company Blue I Water Technologies.
Beijing is one of the most densely populated cities in the world and is challenged by water scarcity. The population has nearly doubled since 2000 to more than 21 million people – more than twice the population of London or New York.
China has 20% of the world’s population and only 7% of the world’s natural fresh water resources.
To meet residential demand, the city draws water from various and changing sources, which means that water quality can be inconsistent. The water must be treated, disinfected and monitored vigilantly to prevent and control waterborne diseases and to make it consistently safe for drinking.
By installing the new devices from Blue I, Beijing Water Group hopes to take a lead in assuring water quality standards and shifting consumer habits in a region where boiling tap water is a historic tradition. The analyzers will help secure quality water for millions of inhabitants.
The analyzers, HYDROGUARD HG-702 and HG-602, are smart high-accuracy water quality monitoring devices developed to perform consistent high-precision measurements of chlorine, pH, turbidity, conductivity and other parameters. The units control and activate dosing pumps to ensure the water supply complies with safety standards. Data, reports and alerts are transferred to utility management professionals in real time with a sophisticated yet simple to use remote system.
The units will be installed at key points in Beijing’s water distribution network. Each one is individually programmed to meet the specific requirements of the network in Beijing.
